1. 530 artificial reefs were placed in the target areas, covering the area of 3 sq. km.
2. 5,000 mangrove trees were planted.
3. 1,500,000 aquatic species (fish and shrimp) were released into the lagoons. One year later, the
number of small-scale fishing boats had increased by 30. In the Songkla lagoon,the average
income per trip increased from 300 baht to 800 ? 1,200 baht, while in the coastal area of the Gulf
of Thailand the average income per trip increased from 150-200 to 300-400.
4. The communities demarcated an area equivalent to 400 ha, covering both coastal areas and sea,
which became conservation zones.

Participants: 18 persons from representatives of participating communities , three neighbouring villages and provincial fishery office.
Impact:

The coastal natural resources was gradually rehabilitated. Fishermen were able to cast their nets. There appeared more fishes. The patrol of the conservation areas had prevented the destructive fishing. Since the coastal resources became rich, there were additional 30 small fishing boats. The income per trip increased from Baht: 300 to Baht: 800-1,200: for the coastal side. But for the lagoon side the corresponding figures were Baht: 150:-200: to Baht: 300-400:

In term of global benefits, the community effort to rehabilitate the coastal natural resources resulted in the fertility of the sea, both in the Gulf of Thailand and the Songkhla Lagoon. The conservation ,though small but replicable , of these 2 spots of the international water will definitely contribute , to the conservation of the global environment.
