Community tree nurseries of endangered species in Comitancillo, San Marcos
OBJECTIVES
1)To provide access to local communities of native endangered species of trees, as well as fast growing species for energy purposes.
2)To complement ongoing reforestation activities at 5 communities on the San Marcos highlands.
3)To train stakeholders on tree nursery establishment, general business management to try to achieve sustainability, and forest management.
This project will establish tree nurseries on 5 communities at Comitancillo, San Marcos; for the production of 74,000 seedlings and their commercialization among participants and other community members that are managing forests with governmental authorization.
Particular emphasis will be given to endangered species.
40% of the total production will be sold to give principles of sustainability to the project and 60% will be used on an ongoing reforestation program.
