Alternative conflict resolution and environmental mediation program in Guatemala
1)To provide access an training to local communities leaders, indigenous peoples representatives, governmental and municipal authorities, to innovative and alternative methods for socio - environmental conflicts.2)To produce and distribute educational materials for training sessions on alternative conflict resolution on environmental issues.3)To establish the Regional Network for Environmental Conflict Resolution on the West region of the country. /This project will develop a series of 7 training workshops on alternative environmental conflict resolution in three departments of the West region of Guatemala, Quetzaltenango, Sololá and Totonicapán. This regional approach is based on the presence of protected areas which management actions cause conflicts among different stakeholders, to facilitate the consolidation of the Guatemalan Protected Areas System in this region, disseminate its legal framework and try to avoid legal problems related to them.

Notable Community Participation
Outstanding. To date the participation on the implemented workshops has been enthusiastic and the initial results reveal that participants are practicing the learned procedures on their communities.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The project has developed training manuals in caqchikel, k'iché, tzu'tuhil and mam languages to attend these ethnic groups on their native languages.
