Diminishing air pollution due to vehicular fumes at Quetzaltenango (Public awareness Program)
To provide objective means to demonstrate air pollution problem at Quetzaltenango and public awareness to support lobbying activities towards the approval and implementation of the municipal by-laws to diminish it.
This project will establish air pollution measurement stations to determine the levels that are present at Quetzaltenango city.
With the obtained results will develop a public awareness campaign that includes local radio, newspapers and TV media, and presentations at cultural activities to provide the information to the public about the situation and problem solutions.
Additionally, the Association has established contacts and will continue them to lobbying at municipal council and national Congress levels to achieve the approval and implementation of the municipal by-laws that will permit control of vehicular polluting gas emissions.

Notable Community Participation
Outstanding. The NGO has been able to motivate 125 students from local high schools to raise awareness about the climate change problem and its relation with vehicular fumes.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The NGO has presented stands in local fairs with massive public presence. To date (Nov. 2000) the NGO has been invited by the Municipality council to conform a multisectorial commission to deal with the air pollution problem via by-laws, raise awareness about it via cable TV programs and spots, radio programs and the development of a major project to improve non-contaminant public transportation means.
