Nature refuges - protection of biodiversity at the local level
The main aim of the project is to set up a network of protected areas (nature refuges) to protect territories with stable populations of animal and plant species officially deemed endangered, especially those which are not subject to legal protection, but nevertheless are under a strong threat of extinction.
Project activities:
? Active protection of local natural environment, with special emphasis on protection of endangered species and ecosystems through creation of few model nature refuges protected by independent social organization and with support of local community ? Lubuski Naturalist Club; in total few hundred hectares planned to be protected;
? Organization of contest for ?minigrants? (activities in the awarded projects should carry out activities to protect natural refuges);
? Publication of handbook ?Nature refuge - How to set up a local protected areas???.

Notable Community Participation
Local community took part in most project activities: preparation of area of nature refuges (mowing, cutting shrubs), protection of nature refuges (around 100 persons participated
in 5 trips and 3 camps). 3 seminars for employees of local government and forest inspectorate about setting up local nature refuge were organized (around 50 participants).
