A furnace was installed in the association headquarters, sweets were produced, cashew processing equipment was purchased. Production was standardized after many sweet and soap making meetings. Losses of raw materials were a main concern for the group. Some sales were successfully carried out. The organizational structure of the association was strengthened, and even after the end of the project funding, the group continues to get together in collective production gatherings. Alternative production was a positive result of this project, diversifying the sources of income for the local families. Negative points were the initially low return on the time and effort invested, the changes of personnel in charge of production, which made standardization nearly impossible, and a large variety of products offered, when there was only enough demand in the market for a few. Efforts to adjust the supply to the demand have been initiated, however, and soon the problem is expected to be surpassed. Capacity-building activities including not only the production, but also entrepreneurship are planned. This should address the commercialization problem, insuring higher income and returns on the investment made. The association as well as the local women were doubtlessly strengthened.
