Rehabilitate village water reservoir, plant trees in watershed and develop home gardens as an alternative to chena cultivation by Isura Sanwardana Kendraya
To modernise village tanks to meet the increased water requirements by deepening the tank bed and streamlining the water sources which feed the tank and to minimise siltation. Plant trees, breed freshwater fish tank and introduce fuel efficient stoves.
Conservation of biodiversity through employment of conservation techniques for soil and water, improve soil quality, increase the soil organism content, improve productivity of land and thereby uplift the living standards of the community.
Conduct this project as a demonstration project and create awareness among farmers, women, school children and change of attitudes of the community emphasizing the necessity for a closer relationship between environment and man.
Educate school children on conservation of home gardens and thereby develop an interest among them about protecting the environment.
As a result of this project, a deepened and reconstructed tank would have water throughout the year, increased bio diversity of fish, birds, other insects and plants in the environment.
