Knowledge sharing among rural communities using community radio service & demonstrate traditional farming, soil conservation methods by Livestock and Agrarian Services Development Foundation
The project location is the Mahaweli C Zone, falling under 4 DS Divisions, comprising 19 villages.
Rationale
Excessive use of agro-chemicals, deforestation, improper land use methods like chena cultivation for example, have contributed to the degradation of the land.
Objectives, activities
Introduction of environmental conservation methods such as soil conservation, production of organic fertilizer, organic farming, management of livestock, use of hay for paddy cultivation, herbal gardens, plant nurseries, minimize the use of agro chemicals and promote usage of organic fertilizers as alternatives
Awareness programmes for school children in the 19 villages coming under the project,
a poster and essay competition on environment and a home garden competition is to be held in the latter part of the project.
Establish bio diversity demonstration plots such as herbal gardens, organic and livestock farms, rice farming using traditional methods, soil conservation, plant nurseries, reforestation, share the knowledge and experiences of communities on biodiversity using community radio.
