Developement of an agro forest, plant nursery and herbal garden in a dry zone village by the Women's Savings Effort , Wilpotha
Rationale
Destruction of natural resources and human inhabitation in the area has caused severe water loss and approx 1500 families in the village are facing difficulties. Number of indigenous plant species are in the verge of extinction due the people being unaware of the importance of their conservation
Main actvities are:
Develop an agro forest by planting trees of fruit, timber and fuelwood value, develop a herbal garden, establish a plant nursery, sell plants and bee keeping for members.The organization is a women's NGO that focusses on community development and income generating activities for poor rurral women. A five acre plot would be used to grow fruit trees and others as a demonstration for members to initiate similar gardens in their lands too. All members have access to land of 2 - 5 acres which can be grown as productive fruit orchards for income generation.
