Micro hydro power generation in two villages by Community Oriented Resource Exchange ( CORE)
(See SRL/98G52/015 for other project of NGO)
Rationale
The natural water resources that supply water for paddy cultivation, easily run dry during drought periods, causing damage to crops.
Soil erosion in the lands near water bodies, due to improper land use.
Damage caused to crops by increased numbers of crop pests.
Use of expensive and inefficient fossil fuel for domestic energy needs.
Objectives, activities
To build two micro hydro power plants in two villages for lighting and battery charging facilities.
To provide domestic electricity to 2 remote villages, situated far from the reach of the national grid, by constructing 2 micro hydro power plants.
2 persons from the community to be trained on maintenance and charging of batteries.
Identification of catchment areas, reserve areas and raising community awareness on their importance.
Groups involved
21 CBOs and 170 beneficiaries represented by the CBOs, of whom 110 are women
