Visits to the properties were able to determine the inaccuracy of the environmental impact study performed by the local energy company. The women?s work had not been taken into consideration, as was the case for many other activities carried out by the small farmers. The studies were not impartial, and seemed to try to make the construction happen, not taking all of the impacts to the local populations into consideration. The company claimed that without the dam, there would be no development in the impoverished region. It is known, however, that the energy generated in this plant will not be used in the region, but will be exported to other regions of the state. The results of the study realized by the grantee were gathered and presented to the energy company responsible for the construction of the dam and for the relocation of the local smallholder families. Heavy rains in the region quenched a long-lasting drought, but delayed execution of the project. A struggle between the grantee and other representations of the local populations and the local energy company followed and continues.
