Activities undertaken: maintenance of collection posts and canteens; organization of the women?s nuclei; management of the babassu project; incentives to diversification of the production; courses offered; meetings for discussion of problems; denouncements of babassu tree deforestation; dissemination of activities; efforts for approval of state babassu protection law. 23 representatives of different communities participated in a fire prevention and control workshop, making the commitment of replicating the information in their respective communities. Mamona and urucum implementation attempts failed due to a long period with no rains. The coordination of the project was, however, successful in generating positive results for the initiative despite the failure to achieve its main proposal. International awards were bestowed upon the association?s work toward dissemination of natural resource conservation and rational use, as well as their tireless efforts to make legislation work for them, rather than create insurmountable barriers. Some time after completion of this project, a state law was approved giving the women babassu palmnut crackers free access to babassu trees, even in private lands. The law further prohibits deforestation of these trees.
