? 2 training classes were organised for 75 people, to train 35 technicians to build and use the biogas technology for Can Huu commune. 9 training classes in biogas technology were organised for 572 participants in the community of Can huu commune.
? A four-day study tour to learn about biogas technology at Van Loi commune, Me Linh district,Vinh Phuc province was organised for 35 people.
? Biogas technology was piloted in Can Huu commune, Quoc Oai district, Ha Tay province. The technical and financial assistance was given to 65 households (representing 3,3% of the households in the commune) to build biogas in the family households.
? A contest on biogas information was organised. 4000 leaflets on biogas advertisement and technical guidance were distributed. Radio programs on the project and environment protection and sanitation were broadcast.
? The pollution caused by dirty water and animal waste on village roads was controlled, limiting the diseases for humans and cattle, contributing to solving the conflicts in the community, putting an end to the complaints on pollution caused by husbandry activities and creating good conditions to develop the animal husbandry activities (the number of pigs and poultry of the households participating in the project increased). On average, each household participating in the project kept from 11 -12 pigs, some households had up to 30 - 40 pigs (before the project introduction, each household in the district had an average of 2.1 pigs) and 32 poultry /per household (an average of 20 poultry /per household in the whole district), making remarkable contribution to the income increase for the community.
? The technician staff in Can Huu commune learnt the techniques in installing and using biogas technology to develop a new trade, creating more employment during the farmers? non-harvesting time, providing the technical services on biogas technology for the community in the commune. With the support from the project, Can Huu became the commune to have the biggest number of biogas in Quoc Oai district (65 bags of biogas out of 180 bags in the district).
? The understanding and knowledge on environmental issues in general and on climate change in particular, and capacity in project implementation and management and M&E of the project grantee organization staff were considerably enhanced thanks to the project implementation and management, and training activities, such as training workshops, study tour, exchange on project management, provided by GEF/SGP office.

The government and communities in Can Huu commune and related organisations and sectors in Quoc Oai district had built and enhanced a working relationship with the Centre of Counseling, Training and Technology transfer in animal husbandry in the implementation of environment and husbandry development project.
? The community and local government?s environment awareness was enhanced.
? The project developed a team of technicians on biogas technology.
? The biogas technology was mainstreamed and integrated with the local programme on agro forestry extension.
Project replication
- The project has attracted good attention of the mass media for the project practical effects. Hanoi and Ha Tay TV had broadcast programs on the project model. These programs on the mass media and the seminars and study tours had helped the project to attract the attention of the communities in other localities inside and outside the province for the project model and this has created favorable conditions for the replication of this model in other localities. The project evaluation results have shown that the project model was introduced to and shared not only with other localities in Can Huu commune and Quoc Oai district as planned but it was also known in many other localities outside the province (Yen Bai, Binh, Phu Tho, etc.). The project has shared the experience and provided the materials for 941 people inside and outside the province of Ha Tay (40 people of whom were students from School of Husbandry and Veterinary Science in Chuong My district who came for a study tour and later they built 10 biogas for households in Chuong My district).
- The group of technicians in the commune were invited by households in other localities in Ha Tay province and other provinces to install biogas (a total of 50 biogas built outside the project).
There is no plan for scaling up by GEF funding.
There is potential that the local department of agriculture and rural development and the community will replicate the project models in their agro-extension programmes.
There is no linkage with GEF initiative.
There is no clear policy link
