Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The project was contributed indirectly to raising awareness through established contacts and cooperation with the regional authorities during the field research. During the project, public officials, local people, and local NGOs (Diyarbakır Culture- Assistance Foundation and Diyarbakır Environmental Foundation) were contacted and informed. At the end of the project a book published on the Medicinal Plants of the GAP Region as a reference book, which, is being used by the several target groups such as academics, conservationists, students. The EFT continued its activities to develop a Medicinal Plant Strategy, several workshops aimed in the area with the regional and local officials on the sustainable use and collection of the medicinal plants. The Grantee continues to raise funding from the other sources for these activities. However, the project stayed sticitly scientific and had limited community involvement.
