Community-Based Watershed Management and Micro Hydropower Development Project (LUZON)
Assistance to two (2) indigenous communities on watershed conservation/management and installation of micro hydropower system towards achieving food sufficiency.
The project will involve the development of a micro-hydropower system and installation of postharvest facilities in Adugao and Caguyen, Apayao. The design of the system have a dual purpose to include power generation and development of the irrigation system. This scheme will pave way for the opening or expansion of rice fields.
The project also encompasses conservation/protection of forest and river ecosystems and livelihood development efforts.

Gender Focus
Although not explicit in the design of the project, women play a very important role in the project. They are involved in designing the project. They also assist in installing the micro hydropower system, esblishing the nursery, and undertaking project monitoring/documentation activities.
The micro-hydropower project has been implemented and managed by the local communities thru the leadership of the women's group in Adugao and the tribal organization in Caguyen.
Notable Community Participation
The indigenous communities are involved in the design and implementation of a comprehensive community-based watershed management plan, and the installation, operation and maintenance of the micro hydropower systems.
