Motu Koitabu Environment and Health Management Plan, National Capital District.
A planning grant of K1,966.67 was provided to the Motu Koitabu Group of the Village of Hanuabada to develop their project proposal. In late 1998 the group approached the secretariat informing the coordinator that the people were suffering from a number of environment health related diseases. As the village is locked in the city of port moresby the village is overcrowded with approximately 30,000 people. The harbour which was their traditional fishing group is also contaminated not only by surrage but also from the industries and harbour activity. The problem is recognised and the group has been encouraged to develop a good project proposal that will eventually be considered for funding by the GEF/SGP.
