The CBO working mainly with women farmers, was successful in identifying 50 indigenous varieties of tubers and yams. Later the Department of Agriculture in Kandy recognised their work and continued to support the CBO in their conservation work.

100 selected women farmers from 15 villages were trained in organic farming and cultivated indigenous varieties in their farm lands. This was a major achievement as the food tastes of the villagers were changed having got used to consuming the commercially grown potatoe.

100 selected women farmers were identified as advisers on cultivation of indigenous varieties of yams and tubers so that they could train other farmers. This was necessary due to the growing interest in the venture among the other villagers in the area.

5 value added products from the yams such as salted chips and other fried food products, tried and marketed locally.

15 small groups of farmers formed in 10 villagers where the cultivation of yams had taken place firmly.

10 small CBOs formed in the 10 villages.
