Conservation of marine ecosystem and its biodiversity by Sub-aqua Club of St. Thomas' Collgege, Mt. Lavinia
Protect the first reef extending from Mount Lavinia hotel upto and including Bellangala rock and adjacent shoreline in order to conserve the marine bio diversity in a sample area.
Activities:
Protect reef to conserve marine biodiversity, identify and map reef biota,
study of reef organisms, train school children and educate beach community
Mapping the physical characteristics of the reef and adjacent beach area.
Identify and map the distribution of reef and rocky biota.
Educate the reef user beach community to enhance their appreciation of long term benefits of proper management of reef biota.
Establish and maintain a section in the school museum with collected reef organisms.
Deploy concrete structures and panels for monitoring settlement and recruitment of selected reef organisms for reef colonization studies.
Develop reef biota research capability through training programmes for school children.
