Uso Sustentável da Biodiversidade no Assentamento São Francisco (Fase II)
Uso Sustentável da Biodiversidade no Assentamento São Francisco (Fase II)
The 70 families inhabiting the São Francisco Agrarian Reform Settlement, in Nortelândia, state of Minas Gerais, will be mobilized for defense and conservation of biological diversity through capacity building and information exchange activities. An inventory of flora present in the settlement will be taken, and integrated management of the same will be promoted. Promotion of permaculture, with forest cultivation techniques, diversified production systems, consortia systems, perennial planting groups which can be replicated by other groups, is planned. A collective contract will also be established for species conservation and sustainable management, especially medicinal plants and fruit species, preventing poisoning of birds and other animals who feed on these fruits. Environmental degradation in the margins of the Santaninha River will be reduced. These activities will come together to promote progress and conservation in the settlement.
