The Cornerstone
The overall goal of this project is to cultivation of fruits and vegetable crops using modern organic farming methods and renewable resources such as available running water, wind and solar (photovoltaic) energy.
The specific objectives are:
-to promote greater self-sufficieny and to reduce unemployment amongst project particpants;
-to pilot organic farming techniques in Barbados at the community level and to share the results acheived with other communities and organizations in Barbados & the OECS;
-to foster community participation in a sustainable livelihood project using modern environmental sustainable farming practices and to involve adjacent communities so that successful practices can be replicated; &
-to preserve the immediate environment at the prioject site by successfully growing crops without the widespread use of chemicals (pesticides & herbicides) to encourage small farmers and other communities to adopt similar practices.
