Community-Based Watershed Management and Water Resource Utilization for Hydro-Power (MINDANAO)
Installation of a 25-kilowatt community-managed micro hydropower facility as an alternative and environment-friendly model for utilizing renewable energy source (water). To sustain MPH operation, a watershed management and development plan was formulated.
Addressing climate change issues at the grassroots level at the same time creating additional livelihood opportunities is demonstrated by this project. It aims to develop and operationalize a community-managed micro-hydro power plant as an environment-friendly technology in support of the community's development. An inherent component is also watershed protection and biodiversity conservation.
The project aimed to developed and make operational a community-managed micro-hydropower project as an environment friendly energy in support to the overall community development program for sustainable development in Polocon, Lamanan, Calinan, Davao City.
The impact of this project is on the improvement of the quality of lives of the community by generating better lighting, thus improves quality of basic education, relieved men and women farmers by providing efficient agricultural processing facilities and created jobs by promoting rural industry, and reduces the pressure from rural to urban migration.
Watershed maintenance and environmental protection facilitates people's empowerment for a sustainable environment. Furthermore, watershed management and protection has ensure the long-term sustainability of the water source and the micro-hydropower project.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Extensive participation of community residents in establishing a nursery, outplanting of seedlings in the watershed, and installation and operation of the micro hydropower system.
Actual design and manufacture of a turbine, actual construction of micro-hydropower with active participation of the community in all aspects of the project implementation. The operation and maintenance is ensured through the local operators with the skills in basic electricity and turbine knowledge and other mechanical aspects of the project.
Vital requirements before putting-up the micro-hydropower a watershed survey and delineation was conducted to identify/determine the watershed area. The result of the said survey was used as a tool for the replanting plan. Seeds/seedling acquisition, nursery establishment, bagging, care and maintenance and transplanting was done by the community themselves. A central nursery was likewise established at the center of the sitio while the satellite nurseries were installed at each of the five purok.
