GEFSGP Stakeholders Workshop
Despite GEFSGP's past successes and tremendous results achieved, there still remains considerable challenges in the area of awareness especially on GEFSGP focal areas and operational programmes not only by communities but also by NGOs and government institutions. This proposal therefore seeks to intensify the awareness raising on the GEFSGP focal areas that include biodiversity, climate change and international waters and their linkage to sustainable rural livelihoods.
In order to achieve the objective of raising awareness in all the focal areas the following activities:
a) Hosting of four workshops throughout the country.
b) Developing information materials on each of the focal areas and brochures for the GEFSGP programme
c) Engaging policy makers and key NGO and government stakeholders in dialogue during workshops on the relevance of GEFSGP in national environmental programmes
d) Assisting communities in the development of proposals that conform with GEFSGP requirements for funding
PROJECT RESULTS
By the end of the project it is anticipated that the following will be achieved:
1) 200 stakeholders from 4 provinces namely Matebeland, Masvingo, Manicaland and Mashonaland will have attended the 4 awareness workshops.
2) All the stakeholders attending the workshop can clearly state the SGP focal areas and how they are linked to their own initiatives.
3) Experiences of best practice in addressing environmental issues with a global impact are shared and documented
4) Comprehensive information materials and bronchures are developed highlighting the GEFSGP programme especially the focal areas in English, SHona and Ndebele.
