Kuguta Kushanda Project
The need for the project arose from the community `s initiative to improve the environmental status within the area ,as well as to raise the standard of living of the project members.This project therefore aims to conserve and improve the biodiversity through reafforestation, grazing area management and improved land management. the project also adresses the cross cutting issue of livelihood improvement by providing alternative income sources which willallow the community toescape from the situation where they are fprced to degrade their environment to survive.

The objectives of the project are
-to provide water at Ruzvidzo by constructing a dam
-to revegetate the area
-to set up a sustainable grazing scheme
-to improve the livelihoods of the community through improved grazing and establishement of nutrition gardens.
-to encourage indegenous and fruit tree plantation in the area
-to encourage and regreen the scattered areas.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Project started as a result of the community's initiative to improve the environmental status of the area. The group has spearheaded the whole process of project implementation and monitoring and have mobilised neighbouring communities to engage in similar activities.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The Tandi community has been the key player in implementing the project. They designed their work plan and identified indigenous trees which they planted in their nurseries which thrive well in their area. They have organised field days to raise awareness on their conservation efforts and impart knowledge to other communities.
