Mudhorobeni Dam Project
The Mundhorobheni Dam Project is located in Ward 11 of the Maranda communal lands , part of the Mwenezi district in Masvingo province.The project is located in an extremely dry area and the community currently use shallow wells in the river beds for their water needs.The project will help re-balance the local hydrology which has been disturbed through deforestation, overgrazing ,and drought.Through catchment conservation ,this project aims to improve the water supply and environmental health of the area, and thus contribute to biodiversity conservation in the area.
Through construction of the dam ,there will be a direct water supply , and water retention will contribute to moister soils and replenishment of ground water.This will inturn improve biodiversity ,in particular through supporting trees and reeds which are becoming rare in the area. Project participants and beneficiaries are indigenous peoples. The reliance on their own Indigenous Knowledge Systems has also enhanced their active participation.

The community members were totally involved in decision making, formulation of programme, preparatory activities and actual implementation of the various activities including dam construction.
