Building capacity of fishermen by using an altenative method to sustainable use of fish resources in the middle area of Gaza.
The project helps the fishermen to promote environmental -friendly method of fishing by using special kind of nets by which they alter the trawling with beach pure-seine method. The new method helps to prevent over-fishing of the small generation, destruction of the fish eggs and the extraction of marine phyto-plankton. The project also helps to raise awareness of the marine biodiversity, provide technical assistance and practical training for 40 fishermen on the new fishing method by granting them 20 nets. Capacity - Building Component
Six workshops are conducted in how to conserve marine biodiversity and the negative effect of the trawling method on marine resources. Also, practical training in side the sea is conducted to acquaint the fishermen on the pure seine method of fishing. Institutionally, Al Tawfiq Association acquires several skills on how to manage a project based on participatory approach.
Gender Focus
The project did not focus on the women participation since fishing is merely a male dominant profession.
