Consolidation of a School Biogas project, Kaole Secondary School, Bagamoyo

The project has benefited the global environment by replacing fuelwood with biogs in cooking and heating. it is also used for lighting. The primary objective was to consolidate the school biogas plant in order to make it a model for learning and replication by other schools and public institution and also preserve mangrove forests by eradicating the use of fuelwood at school by 100%.

Use of biogas int he school has provided budget relief due to the fact that the school no longer buys fuelwood. SAvings have been channeled to expenditures that improves livelihoods.

- Technical Feasibility: Project helped to demonstrate that cooking on biogas is feasible at household level and Institutional level.

- Policy Impact: Project provided a useful policy impact to the effect that biogas was an effective substitute to fuelwood for cooking as adcovated for in the National Energy Policy.
