Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture by Integrated Pest Management
Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture by Integrated Pest Management
The 3 villages are situated in a catchment and watershed area of the Kok River, one of the major tributaries of the Mekhong River. The majority of the population earn their livings by growing rice, vegetable, corn and soya bean. Almost as a rule, growing these species require a lot of
chemical pesticide if expected yield and income are to be secured. The effect of chemical has been witnessed in the river threatening both human body and water species.

Depending upon the provision of nature for food, the target population has a very low income. Therefore, the wholeness of the eco-system of the basin is of utmost important for livelihood security of the population.

With cooperation from concerned government organizations in Chaingrai Province, the project aims to minimize the effect of chemical run-off by introducing an environmentally-friendly approach of pest control and fertilizer application.

Project goals or objectives (including GEF problem-area addressed by projects):

1.To reduce the threat imposed by chemical run-off from agricultural activities
2.To secure and multiply chemical-free food and generate more income in a sustainable way
