Community-Based Seed Banking of Indigenous Agro-Forestry Species (LUZON)
Community-based retrieval, collection, propagation and seedbanking of indigenous agro-forestry species (IAS) in Cabangan, Zambales as part of an environmental rehabilitation plan ofd the forest ecosystem from the effects of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
It aims to do the following: establish a community-based nursery that can support the production of an minimum of 10,000 seedlings; identify, retrieve and propagate 17 species of endangered IAS; production of 13,990 IAS seedlings in the farmlots and communal forests covering about 98 hectares; production of comics as means of reaching out to other upland farmers and to the greater community on the importance of IAS and biodiversity conservation; and establish a seed laboratory serving as a research center of LUFA and/or local community in relation to the continuous production of seeds and seedlings for reforestation activities.
