Coral Reef Restoration, conservation and monitoring programme at Rumassala, Galle by Nature Conservation Group
Reef conservation, developing coral nurseries and replanting and monitoring, reef restoration training, promotion of nature tourism, tour guiding for village youth and publications. The Rumassala coral reef is under threat mainly by the fishermen in the area who dynamite the coral for easy fishing. The NGO aims to work with these fishermen on awareness raising and alternative income generating activities. They will promote the youth of the village to take part in all project activities so that they could influence their elders on coral reef conservation and how to use the reef as a more lucrative method for earning an income.
