Endemic Trees Species Conservation (VISAYAS)
The project aims to conserve and protect the endemic tree species of Negros Island through establishing community nurseries for propagation; educating and training communities on the value of forests and biodiversity conservation; and organizing and strengthening communities for the protection of their forest ecosystems. The Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation Inc. (NFEFI) coordinated the project being responsible for community organizing, technical assistance and capability building activities. Partner POs handled project operations and management of the nurseries, outplanting of seedlings, and maintenance of the watershed areas. Other agencies involved in the project included: DENR for permits and technical assistance; and local government units (both municipal and provincial) for the adoption of the project experience in the whole province of Negros, as well as in the disposal/dissemination of seedlings.
