The river Syr-Darya is one of the major water arteries not only for Kazakhstan, but also for the contiguous states. Now the reservoir, as well as other water pools, is exposed to strong anthropogenous influence through pollution by household and industrial wastes, degradation of the coast due to felling of trees, etc. One of the reasons of such attitude is ignorance of consequences of such actions by local communities.

The project is directed on attraction of attention of a wide audience to the problem of the river pollution and realization of measures to improve the situation. During the project a wide information campaign will be arranged: explanatory work with deputies will be lead, in cooperation woth sanitary - epidemiological department water analysis from the river will be done, information boards alongside the river coasts will be set up, actions on clearing of the coast of the river out of dust with attraction of local population, students, local authorities will take place, leaflets will be distributed,etc.

As a whole, the project will promote attraction of the public to solution of the problem of Syr-Darya river pollution.
