A video documentary was made for sharing of lessons learnt and for case study purposes of the project No SRL/01/23.

Project objectives were:

27 village youth trained as Area Tour Guides and establishment of the Sigiriya Eco-cultural Tour Guide Association (SETGA) - a local community partnership enterprise in tourism operations.

40 village youths trained as Tour Facilitators/Helpers and a Tourist Information Destk established for conducting local guided tours, jeep safaris to nature reserves, elephant rides.

Setting up of a human-elephant conflict resolving committee and a revolving fund.

14 wells for use of agriculture, restoration of 2 large public wells for drinking purposes and 3 water holes for use of wildlife.

57 community members trained in non-destructive nature based enterprises i.e. maintenance of 50 bee colonies.

35 women's society members trained in weaving of rush/reed products, local food products and preserving methods, and production of finished products.

Restoration and enrichment of 130 home gardens and land-use planning.

Savings accounts for 58 students and 27 tour guides and setting up of credit facilities.

Establishment of permanent study plot (100 x 100 meters) and 35 temporary study plots (20 x20 meters) for long-term biodiversity monitoring; census survey of primate speicies and other large mammals, bird studies and monitoring of fish, fauna etc.
