Support to the global environment by introducing small wind energy systems by ITDG-South Asia
Manufacturing and installation of 18 wind turbine units, establishment of a sustainable funding mechanism through influencing policy decisions and micro credit systems. ITDG (Interantional) has developmed a small wind system for battery charging to use in small communities where grid electricity is not likely to reach atleast iin the next 5 years. The system is designed to use 200W's to illuminate four CFL electric lamps and to opearte a radio and black and white television set. The small wind generating system in Sri Lanka was develpoed so as to enable as many people as possible to access its technology and afford the cost. Though the SWG systems cost initially they do not cost for fuel daily. This cost is comparatively far less than a solar system of the same generating capacity.
