The Community will contribute in kind, i.e. manpower

The Kakamega forest, Kenya's only remaining patch of the Guineo-Congolian rainforest, is currently in a degraded state due to over-exploitation. The project helps to find alternative sources to supply the rural communities'needs and thus reduces the threat to the biodiversity of Kakamega.

The project is targeting all groups; men, women and the youth. Women will be relieved from collecting firewood and carrying it. This will have a positive impact on family health and create valuable time for other important activities, such as income generating and learning activities. Those households with increased incomes may now be able to afford school fees.

The success of the butterfly display initiative, guidance of tourists and household wood-lots will contribute to improving household income.
