Training programme for the executives and members of the "Forest Village Development Co-operatives" for the in-situ protection of biological diversity
The project's implementation area is the Black Sea Region which carries special importance for Turkey in respect of its biological diversity especially due to its naturally old-growth forest ecosystems and high mountains and its numerous rivers. Compared to the whole country, interaction between "forest villagers" and forest ecosystems in this region is more intense. The project aims to ensure the sustainable use and protection of the forest resources by training the "forest villagers", which are damaging their surrounding forest ecosystems as a result of the difficult economic, social and cultural conditions and low level of education.

Capacity - Building Component
The project does not train the forest villagers directly but makes use of the leadership within the "Forest Village Development Co-operatives" and its union "Central Union of Forestry Cooperatives".
Notable Community Participation
The project's belief is that "to ensure conservation of biological diversity, local communities should participate in the conservation activities". Accordingly with co-operation of the Central Union of Forestry Cooperatives, participation of the members of 12 affiliated unions has been achieved.
