Establishment of Sustainably Grown Fuelwood Plantation at Bingiriya by Bio Energy Association of Sri Lanka
Community mobilization, establishment of the SGF plantation, gather data in the field of SGF plantations based on short rotation coppicing varieties of trees, fuel wood harvesting and selling of fuel wood with community participation. The SGF aimed at is gliricidia sepium which is fast growing and has multiple uses. It grows in almost all districts of Sri Lanka in dry or wet soil conditions. Its leaves are used as fodder and as a soil nitrogen fixing agent. As a fast growing tree it is ideal for an income generating component for the farmers. Sought after now for as a fuel wood in dendro thermal applications.
