Conservation of rain forests, by providing benefits to the community through micro-hydro power generation by Rainforest-micro-hydro Association
Conservation of rain forests, by providing benefits to the community through micro-hydro power generation by Rainforest-micro-hydro Association
Build three micro-hydros with community participation; provide electricity to households in the villages of Gonnana, Nawela and Delgastenne; awareness raising and monitoring of activities. Electricity to be provided to 160 households in the three villages. The location of the micro hydros are in very remote areas of Kegalle district which has rich patches of rain forest that provide refuge to a wide variety of rare and endemic biota. These are being degraded at a alarming rate. To conserve these important eco systems the cooperation of the community can be obtained by providing tangible benfits such as electricity. The community therefore will protect the resource of the rain forest as it is the soure that will provide them with the facility.
