Printing of alternative textbooks for schools and rural schools project
The project will demonstrate that learning through the element of environment brings about an interest in and respect for one's environment, which in turn provides motivation for its conservation.
The specific objectives of the project is to demonstrate that a) environment is the basis for language development in children and environmental education for children must be linked with the development of a professionally sound educational basis, b) environment education can create awareness of and consideration for conservation of bio-diversity, and c) local teachers can be trained to teach environment and conservation of bio-diversity.
Activities to be carried out under project:
The proposed activity will include; production of primary level textbooks based, generally on environment and specifically on the conservation of bio-diversity; introduction of the teaching of environment as part of the curriculum for primary classes and training of village teachers in teaching environment and conservation of bio-diversity.
Project participants and/or beneficiaries:
Government of Sindh, Citibank. the Book Group, Raasta Development Consultants Al-Falah Volunteers Trust, Foundation Public School, Froebel Education Centre, Bay View Academy, Indus Academy and the CAS School are the participants in this project. The beneficiaries include teachers, students, and parent of the project schools in rural Sindh and of 113 schools using the Book Group books and teachers' guide all over Pakistan.
Anticipated results of project: I
It is anticipated that through this intervention a pedagogically sound teaching methodology for teaching environment and conservation of biodiversity will emerge in the form of teaching manuals. A whole cadre of village teachers will be trained in this teaching methodology. The project will aIso demonstrate the dynamics of the input required to institute change in rural schooling.

Capacity - Building Component
The project will build the capacity of teachers of rural schools in desiminating environmental education to the students with national examples to which students can relate to.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The project will develop text books for schools by incorporating lessons on environmental topics and train teachers on how to disseminate these lessons in the rural schools of Mirpur.
