The goals of the ?Mamia Pakoro Project? in general is the conservation of the biodiversity and the archaeological treasures (Pre-Columbian) of the Sipaliwini Savanna Nature Reserve and surroundings and alternative income generation for the Tareno Amerindians, by means of ecotourism and sustainable harvesting of non timber forest products. In the first instance, on various locations in the Savanna, four multi-functional field stations will be constructed and completely equipped to function as Ranger Stations, Research Stations, as well as Tourist Centers. In the mean time there will be training for community-members in protected area management and the role of central government and conservation law(s) rules and regulations. The project will also provide training for a National United Nations Volunteer (NUNV) field-worker assigned to the community in several aspects of protected area management.
