The Co- management committee comprise local fishermen, other resource users, teachers and local government officers. The rehabilitaion and diversification of mangroves will be undertaken in collaboration with the Co-management Committee, local schools and CBO's

Project Results

- A Lagoon Co-Management Committee established at the DS Office, comprising all relevant Government Officers of the area, the NGO and the community and meets every two months to discuss fishery management issues and other activities related to the lagoon.
- Reforestation of 30,000 mangrove seedlings and diversification of mangrove species has been done with 24,324 seedlings, representing four species replanted,
- 6,000 + seedlings representing six species in the three mangrove seedling nurseries for 2004 / 2005. Target is to produce seedlings representing seven species every year.
- Awareness of mangroves is raised in local schools, Mangrove Education Pack developed and distributed to seven local schools.
- Mangrove drama developed by one local school and performed in six other local schools.
- Art competition completed among four local schools.
- Scientific equipment was provided to the only school teaching ?A? level bioscience in the area.
- TV and newspaper coverage of the Art Competition and Mangrove Replanting Day.
- Three Fisheries Cooperatives (FCs) actively promote the sustainable economic exploitation of lagoon?s resources.
- Three FCS institutionally strengthened: registration, bank account and members? savings, administration fund, credit maintained.
- A fishery management plan has been developed within each FCS and ratified through Lagoon Co-Management Committee.
