Mayflower Bocawina Park Co-management Project
It is the group?s main objective to protect and conserve the Mayflower area and to promote local community stewardship and co-management of the Mayflower Archaeological Site and surrounding area. The project?s goal is to provide a haven for the areas? rich biological diversity, including endangered and threatened species of flora and fauna. This will be accomplished in part by demarcating, mapping and protecting the park perimeters, and advocating for protected status and a co-management agreement between Friends of Mayflower Bocawina Park and the Departments of Forestry and Archaeology. Construction of an education center and office area for wardens at the Mayflower Archaeological Site will provide site maintenance and ensure protection for the flora and fauna by providing authority to prevent hunting, and resource extraction, artifact removal and allow for collection of visitor fees, thus stopping all unsupervised visitation.
