Building Sustainable Communities: Land and Resource Management
Building and strengthening the capacity of indigenous communities and local community-based organisations in Sabah to effectively deal with issues confronting them, especially issues related to biodiversity and the environment. Activities undertaken included training of community leaders, organising community meetings and field visits, and implementing and monitoring community level activities such as protecting fragile ecosystems, preventing encroachment of forest reserves, ensuring the integrity of biodiversity and natural resources, and revitalising important aspects of indigenous knowledge and practices.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Discussed on a one-on-one basis by CBO and project participants over the course of the project. Also highlighted by the SGP NC during his M&E visits.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Indigenous communities are supported through community meetings, workshops and trainings to adopt alternative sustainable livelihoods such as participating in ecotourism and agrotourism programmes, growing traditional medicinal plants, and producing rattan crafts.
