Agro-ecological Management of The Quitoloma High Plateau
Agro-ecological Management of The Quitoloma High Plateau
Establish an appropriate management system for the efficient management of natural resources at the local level, especially on the plateau and on family plots, based on a participative study of the specific characteristics of the ecosystem in the area and its use and load capacity, training for the people who use this resource, and the encouragement of agroecological productive systems.

Project Characteristics and Results
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Indigenous organizations are the groups responsible for carrying out the actions proposed by the project, and they oversee the constant monitoring of the level of fulfillment, the progress and the problems that arise as well as propose medium and long-term management plans. They participate in and learn about the progress of the project through their representatives in the Project Management Committee and in the promoter-training process when these promoters report and make plans with their organization in each assembly. The goal is to create a team of agroecological promoters to manage natural resources and the plateau.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The appropriate management of the plateau would allow for a gradual recuperation of its equilibrium and would guarantee both better cattle production and flow of water from its reserves. Both are directly related to improved agricultural production since they supply fertility and moisture. If resources on plots are recuperated and new productive strategies are developed at the same time, the key elements for improving family incomes and economy in the region will also be stimulated.
