Developing the bird sanctuary of Chi Lang Nam into a centre for environmental education
Developing the bird sanctuary of Chi Lang Nam into a centre for environmental education
The project meets the goal of the GEF/SGP by contributing to the conservation of the bird island in Chi Lang Nam Commune, Thanh Mien District, Hai Duong Province. This bird island has been established recently and has attracted many scientists, researchers and students as well as international and domestic tourists in recent years. Although it is not adequately researched, the bird island is the home of many national and migratory bird species. However, the bird island bank has been seriously eroded, resulting in a significant decrease in the area of the island. Due to the fact that the number of birds significantly increases, there is not enough space for the birds to stay and nest. The project promotes the community to undertake urgent measures to protect the island and conserve its biodiversity. Its primary goal is to establish an environmental education centre at the bird island and to design and test an environmental education curriculum, incorporating teaching biodiversity conservation in other relevant subjects at primary, secondary and high schools, using the bird island as an environmental address for study tours in school teaching and learning activities.

Policy Influence
Policy link - In Document No 99/THHC of Hai Duong Department of Education and Training DOET, in response to the suggestions of the project management board in the dissemination of the materials produced by the project, one paragraph wrote as follows: ?if the lessons are disseminated, they will provide information of scientific and practical significance, acting as starting points for teachers to think and implement the integration of environmental education through the teaching of school subjects and other educational activities. Some lessons have been prepared in the direction of the new teaching method which promotes the pupils? active learning. Despite some drawbacks and limitations, those lessons, if adjusted by the teachers with the contributions of their peers, will become useful. They can be used as reference for teachers in primary schools and junior high schools in their teaching (according to the current curriculum and textbooks as well as the new curriculum and textbooks being experimented and widely applied) There is great potential for a policy link with the tourism development of the province because the project area is a tourist spot of the province.
