- In Document No 99/THHC of Hai Duong Department of Education and Training DOET, in response to the suggestions of the project management board in the dissemination of the materials produced by the project, one paragraph wrote as follows: ?if the lessons are disseminated, they will provide information of scientific and practical significance, acting as starting points for teachers to think and implement the integration of environmental education through the teaching of school subjects and other educational activities. Some lessons have been prepared in the direction of the new teaching method which promotes the pupils? active learning. Despite some drawbacks and limitations, those lessons, if adjusted by the teachers with the contributions of their peers, will become useful. They can be used as reference for teachers in primary schools and junior high schools in their teaching (according to the current curriculum and textbooks as well as the new curriculum and textbooks being experimented and widely applied)
There is great potential for a policy link with the tourism development of the province because the project area is a tourist spot of the province.

- Local authorities, related sectors and mass organisations in Chi Lang Nam commune have increased their natural reserve management knowledge and capacity, education skills in environment issues for effective implementation of IEC activities to enhance the community awareness.
- The environmental education in schools has been enhanced through the establishment of Environmental Education Centre and school gardens in Chi Lang Nam junior high school and primary school, and the planning and pilot teaching of integrating environmental education into subjects, appropriate lessons of junior high school education and primary education, quoting Chi Lang Nam bird area as examples.
- Environmental Education Centre and school gardens have been established for the practical service of environmental education in schools and ecotourism activities of the commune.
- The implementation of community regulations in bird area protection, the capacity of commune government and related sectors have been built and increased in the education and management of eco-tourism.
- The awareness and understandings of the pupils, who are the future owners of Chi Lang Nam, have been improved through the environmental education activities.

During the project implementation, there has been support and active participation of Hai Duong city and Thanh Mien district SOETs. Hai Duong DOET has committed to approve the dissemination of the materials prepared by the project as mentioned above.
- There have not been many reference materials for the teachers in integrating environmental education into the subjects and appropriate lesson therefore, the materials prepared by the project are necessary and useful for the teachers and the pupils.
- Chi Lang Nam commune government has committed to the biodiversity protection of the bird area for the local environment in general and natural resources protection for the development of eco tourism of the commune in particular.
- Chi Lang nam is an appropriate place for environmental education for the schools and it has attracted attention from schools of different localities in Hai Duong province and nearby provinces recently

- The project has had great impacts on the awareness and the understandings of the local authorities in Chi Lang Nam on environmental issues and the necessity of protecting bird area, natural resources for the development of ecotourism and local agricultural production. The commune authorities has become more aware of the management responsibilities of the local government in natural resources management in the commune area, of the relationship between environmental protection and logical use of natural resources and the local socio-economic development sustainability, sustainalbe management of ecotoutism activities through the increasing protection of biodiversity and bird area environment, and the sustainable exploitation and use of flooded area resources for the sustainable economic development of households and locality, environment sanity in rural areas.
- The protection of bird area has been intensified through the making and implementation of protection regulations of bird area. Chi Lang Nam Commune People?s Committee has approved the implementation of community regulations in the protection of bird area in the commune area. The regulations have been responded to and implemented by the local government, mass organisations. 100% of the households that live in the neighbouring areas of bird area voluntarily signed commitment in the regulation implementation.
- The project has not only attracted the interest and support of the government and related sectors in the district but also had certain impacts on the mobilisation of support and investment of related provincial sectors such as Department of Education and Training (DOET), Department of Science, Technology and Environment (DOSTE), Department of Transport through IEC activities of the project. The Department of Transport has invested 1, 7 billion VND to upgrade and widen the street 210 into bird area, creating favourable conditions for transport, serving as a decisive factor in the development of ecotourism activities of bird area. The Department of Science, Technology and Environment considered environmental issues for funding investment in eco environment management activities of bird area.
- Hai Duong city association of environmental education and Chi Lang Nam commune have the opportunities to implement international projects and have gained experience in project design, implementation and management. The project implementation has helped to improve the understandings of project participants and beneficiaries in environmental issues, Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program in Vietnam.
Notable Community Participation
The project focused on the participation of teachers, students, community of Chi Lang Nam commune during planning, monitoring, supervision and evaluation of the project. To promote the role and responsibilities of the community participating in the project and the fruits of the project, during implementation, the project has:
- Disseminated information about the project to all participants in the project (through leaflets, radio, television, conferences of project implementation, review, evaluating the project)
- Focused on local customs of the community to develop the training content accordingly.

Project Results
- The project organised 4 training classes for 200 participants.
- It has encouraged the integration of environmental protection and biodiversity of Chi Lang Nam bird area in the activities of mass organisations in Chi Lang Nam commune. The project has organised 7 talks or video sessions on Chi Lang Nam bird area.
- The environmental protection of the bird area has frequently broadcast in the radio programs of Thanh Mien district and Chi Lang Nam commune.
- The regulations in community protection of bird area have been formulated, approved by Chi Lang Nam local government and put into operations. 100% of the households in the area of bird area have signed their commitment in protecting the bird area.
- The project has grown another 100 bamboo bushes on bird area to create the nesting places for birds , collected birds? droppings to avoid the death of trees due to excess droppings. The land size of bird area has increased by 300m2, with a surface layer of rich soil of 0,4m for the rapid growth of plants. The commune has encouraged the households to grow bamboos in the gardens to attract birds.
- The project has organised a study tour for 60 participants who visited Tien Nong bird village and bird hill in Yen Tho commune, Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province.
- The project has made and issued 4,000 leaflets, 700 calendars, 10,000 notebooks to advertise ecotourism activities and environmental education.
Establishment of Environmental education Centre: The project has established a centre for Environmental Education of 130m2 in size and it has provided the necessary equipment for the advertisement of ecotourism and environmental protection for the tourists and student visitors.
- The project has supported in training teachers to help the Centre in giving presentation to visitors.
- The project has used the Centre to organise practice lessons in giving pilot lessons or extracurricular activities for the pupils, visits for the teachers and their pupils. There have been 15 periods of practice lessons and extracurricular activities and 12 visits for teachers and students of Hanoi Junipr Teacher College Hai Duong Junior Teacher College , Nam Sach high school, Thanh Mien high school, Ngu Hung junior high school,Tran Phu junior high school,Chi Lang Nam junior high school ,Ngu Hung primary school, Thanh Binh and Binh Minh primary schools and Hai Duong Training class for Young Writers. Hai Duong promotion of Learning Association has made use of the Centre for the environmental education.
- The project has organised a competition on knowledge about Chi Lnag Nam bird area for the pupils in scholls in Thanh Mien district and Hai Duong city.
The building of school gardens: The project has investigated, designed and built 2 school gardens for primary school and Junior high school in Chi Lang Nam commune.
- Chi Lang Nam primary school garden has been built with a size of 600m2 in 3 areas: inside the school yard, around the school and school garden.
- Chi Lang Nam Junior High school garden has been built in area of 600m2 divided into 3 parts: inside the school yard, around the school and school garden.
- Planning and teaching pilot lessons of integrating environmental education into subjects, and into appropriate lessons in primary schools and junior high schools for the education of environmental protection and biodiversity with Chi Lang Nam bird area being used as examples.
- On the basis of the above mentioned criteria, the textbook writing committee have chosen 40 lessons in 9 subjects in junior high school education and 20 lessons for 5 subjects in primary education and another 60 specific lessons . Subjects in junior high schools include Biology, Civics, Geography, Agriculture & Technology, History, Literature-Vietnamese, seminars, Maths, Painting. Subjects in primary education cover Nature- Society studies, Health education, Civics, Vietnamese, Music.
- The lessons have been piloted in 7 experimental schools, including 3 junior high schools (Chi Lang Nam. Ngu Hung ( Thanh Mien district) and Tran Phu ( Hai Duong city) and 4 primary schools (Chi Lang Nam, Ngu Hung (Thanh Mien district), Binh Minh and Thanh Binh (Hai Duong city). A total of 39 classes have been piloted, 40 teachers have given pilot lessons with 60 periods for 57 lessons. Besides, 3 lessons in Biology were not piloted because of the inavailability of the new textbooks.
