Sustainable use of natural resources associated to wetlands in Caserío Puntarenas, Suchitepéquez.
To facilitate the participation of four coastal communities on an initiative to improve the sustainable management of mangroves that includes reforestation practices of three species of mangrove trees, linked with the planting of mangrove timber trees substitutes in an agroforestry system with organic farming techniques. The agroforestry system to be developed includes annual cycle plants, fruit and timber trees, and will allow system sustainability on the short term through the annual crops, and medium and long term using the native species of trees with multiple purposes (fruits, timber, non-timber products). The project is follow-up to a project initiated with the support of European Union Mangroves Project, as well as local conservation authorities.
