Curbside Recycling
Curbside Recycling
The project will involve the residential and commercial sectors in Shmeisani area in Amman in the solid waste management process. Resdiential units, hotels, restaurants and companies in Shmeisani area will participate in collection and sorting of recyclable waste with particular emphasis on organic waste. Organic waste will be fed to the Biogas Project implemented by the Greater Amman Municipality for the purpose of generating electricity, producing fertilizers and minimizing pressure on the Russeifa landfill. In this sense, the project will provide a model to support the current national efforts to introduce clean sorting of waste. A comprehensive public awareness campaign will be conducted to support project activities and enhance the achievemtns of the Recycling Project implemented by the Coalition. The Coalaition, which is composed of the Jordan Environment Society, the Arab Women Organization and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, has been cooperating with the Greater Amman Municipality in this effort since 1998.
