Project was implemented covering 11 Educational Regions of of Galle,Matara & Hambantota districts. 200 schools were involved although the project target was 100 schools. Total number of school children who participated & contributed exceede 15,000.

Successful introduction of a monitoring mechanism of the home based energy savings adopted by the school children. Was introduced through an awareness campaign at school level about the energy conservation strategy. Baseline information, setting of targets, regular recording and scoring based on which best performing students were chosen, were activities that led to project success.

Information regularly updated through the study circles and stored in the central database as part of this monitoring mechanism Three different types of formats were introduced respectively for setting targets, recording and for computation of final scores. This information was subsequently transferred to the information management system. This enabled the NGO to recognize the best performing participant students and to make them eligible for the reward scheme.

The major result of the second component of the project (Alternative Energy Consumption component) was the creation of a network of 25 women volunteers from five villages adjacent to the Kottawa forest. They installed alternative cooking stoves in their homes. Awareness creation, training, and distribution of fuel wood efficient cooking stoves were linked to this out put as a supporting activity.
