Pet River Collective Conservation
Originated in the Tanaosri Range and a common drainage with Burma, the Pet River runs its 200 or-so- km. course through various ecosystems starting from Kaeng Krajarn National Park, degraded forest area , cultivated area , industrial and urban communities in the provincial town of Petburi , before emptying into the Gulf of Thailand at Ao (bay ) Baan Laem.
Currently, the river has been heavily degraded by chemical run-off from cultivated areas, community waste water disposal and waste water from factories. The quality of water at some portion was well below standard, unacceptable for use and harmful to water species.
Objectives of the project:
1. To build environment protection capacity of teachers and religious leaders
2. To promote awareness of and participation from community schools
3. To reach out practices to wider audiences and
Activities:
1. Organizing youth camps for 45 students from nine schools
2. Organizing training for staff and other population ( 45 in numbers)
