Conservation and Management of Traditional Groves and Sites of unique Biological, Cultural and Aesthetic Value in Kenya
This project will make an inventory of unique sites, assessing their biological richness, conservation status, use and current threats. Got Ramogi, located in Ramogi Sub-Location, Bondo District is a site of special cultural and historic significance. According to Luo belief this is the place where their ancestors first settled on arrival from Sudan. Apart from being an historic site it is also a sacred cultural site for the Luo people. The site includes a natural forest with indigenous tree species and is the habitat of various species of wildlife. A community group and KSE want to protect the site and its surroundings through an ecotourism project. An eco-cultural centre for informing the public and educating children on their history is to be built in Got Ramogi Hill, Bondo District.
