Conservation and Management of Traditional Groves and Sites of Unique Biological, Cultural and Aesthetic Value around Kenya
The project aims at understanding the full range of sacred sites around the mountain, their historical, cultural and biodiversity significance, their current status and potential threats. The project will also document all existing activities in the sites, myths, beliefs, folklore and other form of indigenous knowledge in the form of photographs, video and booklets.

Gender Focus
Both men and women will give accounts of why the traditional and sacred sites are important ot them, how they used them in the past and how they use them today.
Capacity - Building Component
Community members will collect and identify relevant plant and animal species, giving their local names and uses. They will also learn how to collect specimen and to set up a herbarium.
